Behchokǫ̀, in Canada's Northwest Territories, faces economic strain from low population density and limited employment. Tourism is one of the few viable avenues for growth, and it needs architecture that can host visitors through the harshest months.
Overview
The proposal wraps a compact two-storey dwelling in a protective polycarbonate greenhouse shell. The gap between shell and home becomes a micro-climate that traps solar gain, tempers wind, and keeps an enclosed indoor balcony lush and green. By giving residents a warm, planted retreat, the design directly counters the psychological weight of long winter darkness.
